August 16, 2016 at Usbkill.com website was published a press release supposedly from Hong Kong (at least as written in their press release, but the cloud hosting of theirs site somehow located in the United States. See screenshot). That USB device able to destroy 95 % of all devices with a USB port! The principle of operation of the device: inside the USB Killer there are capacitors, which are at first charged from a USB port, and then, when it reaches 200 volts (VDC), discharged into the USB port. The device is positioned as a test, ie for developers and manufacturers for testing of the vulnerability of their devices. However, this device can be easily buyed on theirs site for 50 euros.
Thus, in fact, this device can be attributed to the category of industrial terrorism! If such a device will be connected, for example, to the banking or other server platform, the consequences could be disastrous!
Attack may be exposed also to ultrasound scanners with a USB port!
Dear colleagues, be careful do not connect the USB drive from unknown persons, in particular patients, to ultrasound scanners, medical data computers, as well as to your personal computer! Damage from such liberties can cost millions!
PS. According to the portal SecurityLab.ru and RG.ru (Russian Newspaper) earlier in 2015 a similar device was announced by Russian inventor, but this product didn' t reach the commercial level.
