  Recurrent shin trauma
#1

    Aka karate kid ...

A teenager with complaints of pain in the shin was admitted to the ED of the Children's City Clinical Hospital, with suspicion of a blunt injury of the shin was sent for ultrasound of the soft tissues of the shin.

By her words, she received a kick in the shin from a peer, in the history a penetrating wound of the same shin with a stick, in the middle third of the antero-outer surface of the shin, a few cm post-surgery scar is visible, going obliquely across the shin, the pain is projected in approximately the same area.

On ultrasound, almost the entire antero-outer region of the shin is occupied by a heterogeneous mass, mainly hypoechoic; in the area of the post-surgery scar in the mass, a hyperechoic structure is visualized which is giving an acoustic shadow.

Dif. diagnosis: petrification or foreign body / corpus alienum inside an abscess / hematoma.
