A 15-year-old teenager was admitted to the emergency department of the Children's City Clinical Hospital with suspected acute appendicitis, hospitalized in the infectious diseases department (i.e. the surgeons of the emergency department considered that the probability of appendicitis here is small!), urgently sent for an ultrasound.
The ultrasound in the right iliac region visualizes a tubular structure 10 mm in diameter, surrounded by echogenic tissues (differential diagnosis: acute destructive appendicitis, periappendicular infiltrate, etc.). In the hypogastrium up to 17 ml of free fluid. Also in the right iliac region is visualized a section of the intestine with a wall thickened to 6 mm (differential diagnosis: enterocolitis / typhlitis, etc.).
