A child of 12 years old, an athlete (football and not only), with suspicion of varicose veins of the lower extremity is directed by a surgeon on ultrasound of the LE veins. In the description of the examination, the surgeon indicated a palpable venous cord along the posterior surface of the middle third of the shin. By the patient' s words he is disturbed by the mass on the posterior-medial surface of the shin appearing in the standing position. On ultrasound in the projection of complaints on the mass, an enlarged part of the great saphenous vein and a perforator vein which is lost in the muscle are visualized. Also at examining of the popliteal region of the same leg, an oval cyst was visualized, measuring up to 2x1cm (Baker' s cyst). external link |
