Thickening and heterogeneity of the intercostal space soft tissues
#1

A 13-year-old teenager was referred for an urgent ultrasound scan of the abdominal cavity and kidneys because of complaints of pain in the left lower anterior part of the chest, aggravated by breathing and sneezing for several days, he denies the injury. Objectively, on palpation, there is a pronouncedly painful area in the anterior part of the lower ribs on the left.

Ultrasound of the abdominal cavity and kidneys revealed slight splenomegaly (+ 5 mm). Ultrasound is extended to soft tissues ultrasonography of the painful area.

On ultrasound of soft tissues, an intercostal area with thickening and heterogeneity of soft tissues is visualized, on CFM with moderate blood flow (differential diagnosis: rib fracture with swelling of surrounding tissues, myositis, etc.)

The child underwent a chest X-ray, but no evidence of a rib fracture was obtained.

PS. At the end of the video, the normal symmetrical area on the right.
