  Hydronephrosis & Ureterocele
#1

Child 1.5 months. Came to the planned US-screening.

According to the mother' s words, a hydronephrosis of the right kidney was detected in utero on ultrasound and after birth was confirmed.

In the previous ultrasound protocol - hydronephrosis 2st (renal pelvis up to 17 mm, calyces, I do not remember exactly, but somewhere about 10 mm), megaureter.

At the current ultrasound, the megaureter is not visible but the ureterocele is visible, the pelvis of the right kidney is not dilated, but the calyces are to 8mm, for some reason only in the upper half of the kidney, in the lumen of the calyces is visible sludge - in diff. diagnosis included pyelonephritis, VUR, kidney duplication.

" In a fetal duplicated collecting system, the ureter affected by the ureterocele generally drains the top part of the kidney, while the other ureter drains the bottom part. The ureter affected by the ureterocele enters the bladder at a lower location than the other ureter. This may cause reflux (or back-flow) of urine into the other ureter."
